1999 Strategic Plan of Recommended Capital
Outlay, Operation & Maintenance Project for the Tennessee & Cumberland Rivers
On an annual basis, the Tennessee River
Valley Association (TRVA) and its Tennessee-Cumberland Waterways Council (TCWC) present to
the Tennessee Valley Authority, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Coast Guard a
strategic plan of recommendations and suggestions for capital outlay, operations and
maintenance projects for the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers. TRVA/TCWC and the
towing industry users are pleased that recommendations and suggestions are solicited and
its input is presented to the federal agencies at the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers-Nashville District's Semi-Annual Navigation meeting in March each year.
The three agencies combined response is presented in return to the navigation industry at
the TRVA/TCWC annual meeting each October.
Contained in this strategic report is a
listing of top priority and long range projects; continuing capital issues; current issues
requiring further action; past issues requiring further action; and new issues. Also
discussed are issues such as lock projects; bridge replacements; dredgework; marine safety
issues; bendway modifications; and other issues which impact the current and future
operation of the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers.
